Our Product Lines:

Picture frames

With 8,000 samples to choose from, we offer the best products available from the best companies on the market. We carry more smaller moulding manufacturers and lines (such as Bella and J. Orr) than most other shops, as well as frames from larger companies such as Larson Juhl and Roma.

A finished corner frame is any ordered frame whose profile (shape) and finish can be specified. You can order finished corner frames in 22kt gold, metal leaf, white gold and “ebony”, or have them painted the color of your choice or even add some hand carving. We also have a selection of incredible handmade Peruvian leather frames, corrugated aluminum frames and welded steel frames. Our selection is truly limitless. If you can imagine it, we can make it.

Glazing

We only carry TruVue glazing products. We are guided by quality and do not substitute cheaper glasses or other lines that have come out on the market. We believe that TruVue offers a consistent, high quality product, and we appreciate it for its unconditional guarantee. In our opinion, it offers the best clarity and protection available.

We have in stock:
Regular glazing, non-glare glazing, conservation clear glazing (97% UV filter), conservation non-glare glazing (97% UV filter) and museum glazing (98%UV filter).
Acrylic sheeting and plexiglas can be special ordered.

Matting

After twenty years of dealing with matboards, we have diligently eliminated the riffraff from our selection. We offer Bainbridge, Crescent Rag, and Alpha mats, as well as the complete line of Rising Solid Rag matboards. For the preservation qualities these boards offer us, we provide a large color selection of matboards that will satisfy your design without damaging your artwork. Though we can get you paper or “buffered” matting for your craft projects, we do not frame pieces with this sort of matting.

Mounting

Through there are several different methods to mount artwork, we typically use Bainbridge Artcare Archival Foamcore and Japanese hinges. We prefer this method because it is archival, reversible, and allows the artwork to expand and contract. This is especially desirable for works on paper and photographs. If for whatever reason we need to remove the picture from the frame, this process allows us to safely undo the mount so the object can then be returned to you in the condition you brought it in.

Dry mounting is another option available to you at Rose City Framemakers which involves a heat activated glue and regular foamcore. As this process is permanent and non-reversible, we recommend it for works easily replaced like posters, printed photos, or items in need of flattening. At the moment, this option is not archival.

Works of art on canvas, whether oil or acrylic paintings, are stretched on stretcher bars. Gallery bars (extra thick bars) that require no additional framing are available.

Although it is a time-consuming process, we lace all needleart using a rag backing board. With this process, steel pins are removed and no tape or adhesive is used. We believe that if you or someone you know took valuable time to complete a needlepoint, crewel or other needleart, we should take the time to frame it correctly. Needlearts are NEVER drymounted.

Installation

In picture framing, “installation” is the process of securing the glazing, matting, art, and backing board into the frame and finishing by securing a hanging device to it. Each piece is finished with hardware best suited for home installation of that particular artwork. Some projects - like mirrors – are equipped with “D” rings rather than hanging wire for safety. Most frames leave us with a dustcover, are wired, and include the appropriate size picture hanger for the piece. We take care to keep wiring details the same on pictures in wall groupings to make hanging at home easier.
